Complete Epoxy Floor Checklist

Get a floor that lasts 10-20 years. Preparation is everything with epoxy.

Before Installation

• Choose finish: standard, metallic, flake, or quartz
• Decide on color and flake blend (if applicable)
• Clear the space completely — nothing can be on the floor
• Check concrete moisture — must be below 4 lbs/1000 sq ft (calcium chloride test)
• Repair any cracks or spalling before coating
• Get 3+ quotes specifying prep method (grind vs. acid etch)

What to Ask Contractors

• Do you diamond-grind or acid-etch? (grinding is superior)
• What is the coating thickness in mils?
• How many coats? (primer + base + topcoat minimum)
• What is the pot life and cure time?
• Is UV-stable topcoat included for sun-exposed areas?
• Warranty on peeling, delamination, and hot-tire pickup?

After Installation

• Stay off the floor for 24 hours (foot traffic) and 72 hours (vehicle traffic)
• Avoid dragging heavy items for first week
• Clean spills promptly — especially oils and solvents
• Use soft-bristle broom or microfiber — avoid abrasive cleaners
• Reapply topcoat every 3-5 years for high-traffic areas
